Fishing with St. James

Sunday, August 20, 2017

Fifty years ago on August 27, 1967, Sr. Catherine Ann
Bones, SCL
left her home in McCook, Nebraska and entered
the Sisters of Charity in Leavenworth, Kansas. At the
10:30 a.m. Mass this Sunday she will renew her vows and we
will pray with her in thanksgiving to God for her being at St.
James for 1/50th of her faithful and fruitful ministry. On the
website of the Sisters of Charity Leavenworth (SCL) I found
this quote from their Constitution, “we are called ever to renew
and recreate our works and our witness uniting justice and
charity in our lives as servants of the poor.”
I am grateful for
Sr. Catherine’s presence and ministry at St. James and look
forward to whatever part of the next 50 years she will serve
here.

Our parish is undergoing a partial staff renovation. Candi
Koenig
has accepted a different part time job and will continue
to work at St. James for fewer hours. Candi will still coordinate
the liturgical ministry schedules and manage our safe
environment records. We welcome back Brenda Marshall who
will reprise her role as religious education secretary for pre-12th
grades and RCIA and a plethora of other activities. Brenda
trained Candi for her job three years ago so this feels like “déjà
vu” only backwards.

My take away verse from this week’s Holy Day Mass is
Luke 1:45 “Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken
to you by the Lord would be fulfilled." Lucas 1:45 “Dichosa
tú, que has creído, porque se cumplirá cuanto te fue anunciado
de parte del Señor".

I am blessed by being in your midst to see the Lord’s word
fulfilled in our life together.

I AM Joseph your brother, Fr. Joe Hannappel

Mission Statement

St. James parish is established to be a sign of the presence of the Kingdom of God, to spread the Good News of the Gospel and to minister and serve others. As Catholics we believe in Jesus' dying and rising and in our call to celebrate the Sacraments and proclaim the Gospel.
