Confirmation

confirmationAt St. James, the Sacrament of Confirmation is offered to young adults in their senior year of high school, in the spring before their graduation from high school. Confirmation classes are held during the 2nd semester of 11th Grade (February through April) and during the first semester of 12th Grade (September through November). Preparations begin years earlier in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC) curriculum.

If your child has not received sacramental preparation at their designated grade level, or for guidance on obtaining the Sacrament of Confirmation for yourself or your child, please call the Religious Education office, 308-234-9695 for information.

What is Confirmation? In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is "sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit" and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ.

The Church Teaches: There are seven sacraments. They were instituted by Christ and given to the Church to administer. They are necessary for salvation. The sacraments are the vehicles of grace which they convey. They are validly administered by the carrying out of the sign with the proper intention. Not all are equally qualified to administer all the sacraments. The validity of the sacrament is independent of the worthiness of the minister. Three sacraments imprint an indelible character.

Sacramentals are instituted by the Church and are effective by virtue of the Church's intercession. Institution and alteration of them is reserved to the Holy See.
