While our church observes May as the “month of Mary” our culture also celebrates “Mother’s Day.” Incarnational theology honors the truth that God can be found everywhere — in nature, in art, in reading and meditation and music, inside and outside of churches. This leads me to believe that God is especially found in the holy chaos and sacred order of home life. The Spanish mystic Teresa of Avila wrote, "God is found in the pots and pans." The Latina theologian Ada María Isasi-Díaz described this encounter with God in the sacred and the mundane, as lo cotidiano, "the daily thing" or "sacred ordinariness."

“Let us Pray: We remember that our Blessed Mother was “blessed among women” when she was asked by God to bear His Son. We ask God’s blessing on all women, because all women, no matter what their state in life, are specially privileged to bring Christ into the world. Mary is our model in joy and in suffering, in trust and in sorrow. We ask Mary to intercede for our earthly mothers and for all the women who cared for us, and we ask the Holy Spirit to increase our love so that we will always honor the women in our lives. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

This week the diocesan priest transfers will be published in the West Nebraska Register. I am happy to inform you that Fr. Art and I will continue our assignments at St. James. It is an honor for me to serve this parish as your pastor, to work with our great staff, committees, prayer groups, and ministry programs. I especially love celebrating the Liturgy of Eucharist with you. Every experience deepens my awareness that the “reign of God” is present and powerful right here in our midst!

I AM Joseph your brother and grateful pastor!
Fr. Joe Hannappel
