Another Fishing Story

“I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, your spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1)
     Sacrifice is a word we don’t use often but is used by the Church and in scriptures regularly. When we talk about the Mas, or the Eucharist, we always refer to the sacrifice of Jesus, made real for us on the Altar. Sacrifice is also a reality we all experience in our daily lives as Jesus tells us, “Take up your cross daily and follow me”.
     I have been asked a number of times if I could spend some time teaching on the Mass and explain why we do what we do. A teaching Mass can take several hours to explain all of the details involved, but we can also do this over a number of talks. I have talked with Fr. Anthony and since Fr. Art is out recovering from knee surgery, we have agreed to take the month of September and teach on the Mass.
      Each weekend, at all of the Masses, I myself will preach and teach in 4 parts the Mass and a deeper understanding of what we are doing. The four parts will be; 1. The Entrance Rites, 2. The Liturgy of the Word, 3. The Liturgy of the Eucharist, 4. The Concluding Rites.
     We are always learning, myself included. This will be a chance for all of us to grow in our knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and practice. I thank Fr. Anthony for allowing me to take his homily/preaching for the month of September, although he will still celebrate the Mass when he is scheduled, I will just preach the homily each week.

May the Lord guide us and help us to understand his deep love for us and the sacrifice we participate in at every Mass.

Otra historia de pesca

  “Les exhorto, hermanos y hermanas, por las misericordias de Dios, a que ofrezcan sus cuerpos como sacrificio vivo, santo y agradable a Dios; este es su culto espiritual.” (Romanos 12:1)
     Sacrificio es una palabra que no usamos con frecuencia, pero que la Iglesia y las Escrituras utilizan regularmente. Cuando hablamos de la Misa o de la Eucaristía, siempre hacemos referencia al sacrificio de Jesús, hecho presente para nosotros en el Altar. El sacrificio también es una realidad que todos experimentamos en nuestra vida diaria, como nos dice Jesús: “Toma tu cruz cada día y sígueme.”
    Me han preguntado varias veces si podría dedicar algún tiempo a enseñar sobre la Misa y explicar por qué hacemos lo que hacemos. Una Misa explicativa puede tomar varias horas para explicar todos los detalles involucrados, pero también podemos hacerlo a través de varias charlas. He hablado con el Padre Anthony y, como el Padre Art está recuperándose de una cirugía de rodilla, hemos acordado dedicar el mes de septiembre a enseñar sobre la Misa.
     Cada fin de semana, en todas las Misas, yo mismo predicaré y enseñaré, en cuatro partes, sobre la Misa y sobre una comprensión más profunda de lo que estamos haciendo. Las cuatro partes serán: 1. Los Ritos Iniciales, 2. La Liturgia de la Palabra, 3. La Liturgia de la Eucaristía, 4. Los Ritos de Conclusión.
      Siempre estamos aprendiendo, yo incluido. Esta será una oportunidad para que todos crezcamos en nuestro conocimiento y comprensión de la fe y la práctica católicas. Agradezco al Padre Anthony por permitirme hacerme cargo de su homilía/predicación durante el mes de septiembre. Aunque él seguirá celebrando la Misa cuando esté programado, yo simplemente predicaré la homilía cada semana.

Que el Señor nos guíe y nos ayude a comprender su profundo amor por nosotros y el sacrificio en el que participamos en cada Misa.
