Another Fishing Story
This weekend we will celebrate the Baptism of the Lord. We will conclude the Christmas season and move back into ordinary time. I want to thank all of you for a wonderful and blessed Christmas. I am truly blessed as your pastor to witness your faith and devotion and how deeply you care about your church and the beauty of Christmas Masses. We had approximately 3,000 people attend the 5 Christmas Masses here at St James, with many visitors and friends joining us.
I also want to take an opportunity to personally thank all of you who sent cards and gifts. Your kindness and generosity towards me echoes the Father’s sentiment in the Gospel today in regards to Jesus: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” You have been an amazing gift to me the past six months since I have arrived.
The baptism of the Lord always reminds me to be grateful for my own Baptism, and of course birth. This weekend as I leave for my annual ice fishing trip up to Minnesota/ Canada, I will celebrate my 52nd birthday. On a cold winter night on January 10, 1974 I was born in Bridgeport, Nebraska. I was baptized on February 17, beginning a life filled with the blessings of the Lord. Do you know the date of your Baptism? I always encourage the faithful to try and find this date and celebrate it with the same excitement and enthusiasm as your birthday. On that date, the Father said of you also, “you are His beloved son or daughter, and He is well pleased with you.” May you receive an abundance of grace today as we all celebrate together this life of grace we are gifted in Christ Jesus.

Otra Historia de Pesca
Este fin de semana celebraremos el Bautismo del Señor. Concluiremos el tiempo de Navidad y regresaremos al Tiempo Ordinario. Quiero agradecerles a todos por una Navidad maravillosa y llena de bendiciones. Me siento verdaderamente bendecido, como su párroco, de ser testigo de su fe y devoción, y de cuánto se preocupan por su iglesia y por la belleza de las Misas de Navidad. Aproximadamente 3,000 personas asistieron a las 5 Misas de Navidad aquí en St. James, con muchos visitantes y amigos que se unieron a nosotros.
También quiero aprovechar esta oportunidad para agradecerles personalmente a todos los que enviaron tarjetas y regalos. Su bondad y generosidad hacia mí reflejan el sentir del Padre en el Evangelio de hoy con respecto a Jesús: «Este es mi Hijo amado, en quien me complazco». Ustedes han sido un regalo maravilloso para mí durante los últimos seis meses desde que llegué.
El Bautismo del Señor siempre me recuerda estar agradecido por mi propio Bautismo y, por supuesto, por mi nacimiento. Este fin de semana, mientras salgo para mi viaje anual de pesca en el hielo a Minnesota/Canadá, celebraré mi cumpleaños número 52. En una fría noche de invierno, el 10 de enero de 1974, nací en Bridgeport, Nebraska. Fui bautizado el 17 de febrero, comenzando una vida llena de las bendiciones del Señor. ¿Conocen la fecha de su Bautismo? Siempre animo a los fieles a tratar de encontrar esta fecha y celebrarla con la misma emoción y entusiasmo que su cumpleaños. En ese día, el Padre también dijo de ustedes: “Tú eres su hijo o hija amado(a), y Él está complacido contigo”.
Que hoy reciban una abundancia de gracia mientras todos celebramos juntos esta vida de gracia que se nos ha regalado en Cristo Jesús.
