Another Fishing Story
Well, the weather is getting colder and it feels a bit more like winter now. I may be the only one happy about the frigid tempsthese days, but I am excited the lakes will be freezing over soon and I can do some ice fishing. The cold mornings also encourage me to walk faster on my morning walk.
On a more serious note, Advent has begun and we are waiting for the Lord to come. Last weekend I spoke in the homily about the three-fold coming of the Lord. He came in History, He comes now in Mystery, and He will come again in Victory or Glory. It is a wonderful reflection when we notice how our hearts long for the coming of the Lord. Another theme in Advent is the four candles of the Advent wreath that each have a meaning. Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. Each week of Advent we can take one of these and pray more intentionally to receive this gift more abundantly in Christ Jesus. How can Jesus’ coming help me to hope more? What peace do I desire from Jesus this Advent? What Joy does Jesus offer me today? How does the love of Jesus help me to love more the people around me? So many ways to patiently wait and pray this Advent.
This Monday is also a Holy Day of Obligation. American Bishops lifted the obligation for Catholics if a major Holy Day falls on a Monday or Saturday. However, since this Monday is the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Patroness of all America, we have been obliged to be at Mass.

Otra Historia de Pesca
Bueno, el clima se está poniendo más frío y ahora se siente un poco más como invierno. Puede que sea el único contento con las temperaturas gélidas estos días, pero estoy emocionado de que los lagos pronto se congelarán y podré hacer algo de pesca en el hielo. Las mañanas frías también me animan a caminar más rápido en mi caminata matutina.
En una nota más seria, el Adviento ha comenzado y estamos esperando la venida del Señor. El fin de semana pasado hablé en la homilía sobre la triple venida del Señor. Vino en la Historia, viene ahora en el Misterio, y vendrá nuevamente en la Victoria o la Gloria. Es una reflexión maravillosa cuando notamos cómo nuestros corazones anhelan la venida del Señor. Otro tema en el Adviento es el de las cuatro velas de la corona de Adviento, cada una con un significado: Esperanza, Paz, Gozo y Amor. Cada semana de Adviento podemos tomar uno de estos temas y orar con más intención para recibir este don más abundantemente en Cristo Jesús. ¿Cómo puede la venida de Jesús ayudarme a tener más esperanza? ¿Qué paz deseo de Jesús este Adviento? ¿Qué gozo me ofrece Jesús hoy? ¿Cómo me ayuda el amor de Jesús a amar más a las personas que me rodean? Hay tantas maneras de esperar y orar pacientemente este Adviento.
Este lunes también es un Día Santo de Obligación. Los obispos estadounidenses levantaron la obligación para los católicos cuando un Día Santo mayor cae en lunes o sábado. Sin embargo, como este lunes es la Inmaculada Concepción de la Santísima Virgen María y la Patrona de toda América, estamos obligados a asistir a Misa.
Habrá varias opciones para la Misa este lunes 8 de diciembre.
