The National Eucharistic Congress will be held in Indianapolis July 17-21, 2024. The Diocese of Grand Island has a bus and hotel travel package for people who are interested. There is information on the Diocesan website and in the Gathering Space.
As part of the events leading up to the National Eucharistic Congress, a National Eucharistic Pilgrimage is being planned. This pilgrimage takes place June 2024 with all 4 routes ending in Indianapolis on July 17, 2024, for the start of the Congress. The three dioceses of NE are taking part in the Junipero Serra Route of this pilgrimage.
There is an opportunity for young adults ages 19-29 to get involved at the National level. The idea of this pilgrimage is to have a team of Perpetual Pilgrims lead the procession along each route. This team of 14 pilgrims will include priests, deacons, seminarians, religious, and lay persons. The National committee is looking for individuals to fill these teams and the application has recently opened. The Diocesan Youth Office has information from the national committee on this opportunity and how to apply.
The “Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy (SC)” from Vatican II provides guidance and instruction for our understanding of the liturgy: “The liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the church is directed; it is also the source from which all its power flows. For the goal of apostolic endeavor is that all who are made children of God by faith and baptism should come together to praise God in the midst of his church, to take part in the sacrifice and to eat the Lord’s Supper.” (SC 10)
“Mother Church earnestly desires that all the faithful should be led to that fully conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations which is demanded by the very nature of the liturgy. Such participation by the Christian people as "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a redeemed people (1 Pet. 2:9; cf.2:4-5), is their right and duty by reason of their baptism. In the restoration and promotion of the sacred liturgy, this full and active participation by all the people is the aim to be considered before all else; for it is the primary and indispensable source from which the faithful are to derive the true Christian spirit; and therefore pastors of souls must zealously strive to achieve it, by means of the necessary instruction, in all their pastoral work. (SC 14).

Como parte de los eventos previos al Congreso Eucarístico Nacional, se está planificando una Peregrinación Eucarística Nacional. Esta peregrinación tendrá lugar en junio de 2024 y las 4 rutas finalizarán en Indianápolis el 17 de julio de 2024, para el inicio del Congreso. La “Constitución sobre la Sagrada Liturgia (SC)” del Vaticano II proporciona orientación e instrucción para nuestra comprensión de la liturgia: Constitución Sacrosanctum Concilium Sobre la Sagrada Liturgia: No obstante, la Liturgia es la cumbre a la cual tiende la actividad de la Iglesia y al mismo tiempo la fuente de donde mana toda su fuerza. Pues los trabajos apostólicos se ordenan a que, una vez hechos hijos de Dios por la fe y el bautismo, todos se reúnan para alabar a Dios en medio de la Iglesia, participen en el sacrificio y coman la cena del Señor. (SC 10) La santa madre Iglesia desea ardientemente que se lleve a todos los fieles a aquella participación plena, consciente y activa en las celebraciones litúrgicas que exige la naturaleza de la Liturgia misma y a la cual tiene derecho y obligación, en virtud del bautismo, el pueblo cristiano, "linaje escogido sacerdocio real, nación santa, pueblo adquirido" (1 Pe., 2,9; cf. 2,4-5). Al reformar y fomentar la sagrada Liturgia hay que tener muy en cuenta esta plena y active participación de todo el pueblo, porque es la fuente primaria y necesaria de donde han de beber los fieles el espíritu verdaderamente cristiano, y por lo mismo, los pastores de almas deben aspirar a ella con diligencia en toda su actuación pastoral, por medio de una educación adecuada. (SC 14)
