Another Fishing Story
In the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, Peter stands up and proclaims the Resurrection. He speaks about how David even prophesied about this great truth that the Messiah would rise from the dead. Do you proclaim Jesus Risen? As a baptized and anointed Catholic Christian, we are Baptized and anointed as priest, prophet and king. This all flows to us from Jesus. We are incorporated into His very life, death and resurrection.
To be a prophet today is a difficult thing, but still necessary. People may not want to hear the message of Easter, that Jesus is risen from the dead. People may not agree with our value on peace and life and the dignity of all people created in God’s own image. But we still proclaim these truths regardless. We are prophets, we are called to proclaim just as St. Peter did in the Acts of the Apostles. I am happy to say that I believe we are doing this, and doing it well. As a brief report, we saw over 3,500 faithful Catholics at the Holy Week and Easter Sunday Masses and services. We have 56 First Holy Communions and baptized 6 children. All of this we did in less than 2 weeks. This is a testament to the faith and devotion and prophetic message we proclaim here at St. James. I am both humbled and blessed to be your pastor and to lead this parish in our journey of growing closer to Jesus and conforming our lives to His.
Our challenge this Easter, is to continue to proclaim the Resurrection of Jesus by our lives, our actions and our words. To share the Peace Jesus offers as His Easter gift. To live as an Easter people whose song is Alleluia! Don’t let Easter slip away too soon. Share the joy Jesus has renewed and sustains in you every day.

En la primera lectura de los Hechos de los Apóstoles, Pedro se levanta y proclama la Resurrección. Habla de cómo incluso David profetizó sobre esta gran verdad: que el Mesías resucitaría de entre los muertos. ¿Proclamas tú a Jesús resucitado? Como cristianos católicos bautizados y ungidos, somos bautizados y ungidos como sacerdote, profeta y rey. Todo esto fluye hacia nosotros desde Jesús. Estamos incorporados a su misma vida, muerte y resurrección.
Ser profeta hoy es algo difícil, pero sigue siendo necesario. Puede que la gente no quiera escuchar el mensaje de la Pascua, que Jesús ha resucitado de entre los muertos. Puede que no estén de acuerdo con nuestros valores sobre la paz, la vida y la dignidad de todas las personas creadas a imagen de Dios. Pero aun así proclamamos estas verdades. Somos profetas, estamos llamados a proclamar tal como lo hizo San Pedro en los Hechos de los Apóstoles. Me alegra decir que creo que lo estamos haciendo, y lo estamos haciendo bien. Como breve informe, vimos a más de 3,500 fieles católicos en las Misas y servicios de Semana Santa y Domingo de Pascua. Tuvimos 56 Primeras Comuniones y bautizamos a 6 niños. Todo esto lo hicimos en menos de dos semanas. Esto es un testimonio de la fe, la devoción y el mensaje profético que proclamamos aquí en San Santiago. Me siento humilde y bendecido de ser su párroco y de guiar a esta parroquia en nuestro camino de acercarnos más a Jesús y conformar nuestras vidas a la suya.
Nuestro desafío en esta Pascua es continuar proclamando la Resurrección de Jesús con nuestras vidas, nuestras acciones y nuestras palabras. Compartir la paz que Jesús ofrece como su regalo de Pascua. Vivir como un pueblo pascual cuyo canto es ¡Aleluya! No dejen que la Pascua se escape demasiado pronto. Compartan la alegría que Jesús ha renovado y sostiene en ustedes cada día.
