Another Fishing Story
“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.” (1 Corinthians 12:3-7)
Happy Pentecost! It is hard to believe that it has been 50 days (Pentecost) since Easter Sunday. The promise of the Lord is completed this weekend as we all receive anew the Holy Spirit and recognize the gifts we have been given. St. Paul mentions this in the second reading for this weekend. The many gifts of the Holy Spirit inspire each of us in a different way. I believe each person in our church has gifts that are meant to be shared with each other as church. It is all the same Spirit of God, but makes each of us a necessary part of how church works.
Pentecost is a reminder that we are a part of something bigger than us; we are a part of the Church. What gifts do you have? How have you been inspired and called to serve in the church. This weekend we pray as the Apostles did in the upper room. We have all been Baptized and received the Holy Spirit, and many have also been confirmed in the same Spirit. Our prayer not only unites us, but it also invites the Holy Spirit in new ways, new ministries and new efforts to be disciples of Christ. Let us pray this prayer to the Holy Spirit and take the time to reflect on where God is asking us to use our gifts to serve Him and the Church.
"Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray: O God, who have taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that in the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in his consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen."

¡Feliz Pentecostés! Es difícil creer que ya han pasado 50 días (Pentecostés) desde el Domingo de Pascua. La promesa del Señor se cumple este fin de semana cuando todos recibimos nuevamente al Espíritu Santo y reconocemos los dones que se nos han dado. San Pablo menciona esto en la segunda lectura de este fin de semana. Los muchos dones del Espíritu Santo inspiran a cada uno de nosotros de una manera diferente. Creo que cada persona en nuestra iglesia tiene dones destinados a compartirse unos con otros como Iglesia. Es el mismo Espíritu de Dios, pero hace de cada uno de nosotros una parte necesaria de la manera en que funciona la Iglesia.
Pentecostés nos recuerda que somos parte de algo más grande que nosotros mismos; somos parte de la Iglesia. ¿Qué dones tienes? ¿Cómo has sido inspirado y llamado a servir en la Iglesia? Este fin de semana oramos como lo hicieron los Apóstoles en el aposento alto. Todos hemos sido bautizados y hemos recibido el Espíritu Santo, y muchos también han sido confirmados en el mismo Espíritu. Nuestra oración no solo nos une, sino que también invita al Espíritu Santo de nuevas maneras, a nuevos ministerios y a nuevos esfuerzos para ser discípulos de Cristo. Oremos esta oración al Espíritu Santo y tomemos el tiempo para reflexionar sobre dónde Dios nos está pidiendo usar nuestros dones para servirle a Él y a la Iglesia.
“Ven, Espíritu Santo, llena los corazones de tus fieles y enciende en ellos el fuego de tu amor. Envía tu Espíritu y serán creados, y renovarás la faz de la tierra. Oremos: Oh Dios, que has enseñado los corazones de los fieles con la luz del Espíritu Santo, concédenos que en ese mismo Espíritu seamos verdaderamente sabios y gocemos siempre de su consuelo. Por Cristo nuestro Señor. Amén.
