Retreat Opportunities

Teens Encounter Christ (TEC)

September 14-16, 2019 at St. James, Kearney    January 18-20, 2020 at Christ the King, Gering
Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) is a weekend experience designed especially for young people from Spring Semester Sophomores to seniors in High School and sponsored by the Diocese of Grand Island Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. The activities at TEC provide an enjoyable opportunity for young people to develop a better sense of self, to build positive relationships with others, and to grow closer to God. The weekend is based on solid, up-to-date theological and psychological principles. The testimony of thousands of young people who have participated in the program gives convincing evidence that TEC touches the participants deeply and has a positive influence on their value system. The registration fee is $85. I am hoping that we will be able to take a large group from St. James. We will keep you posted on transportation and scholarship opportunities. More details can also be accessed at http://www.gidiocese.org/yya. Registration is available on line or in a printed format.

Higher Ground 1
Higher Ground 2

Higher Ground High School retreats are five-day Catholic youth programs for those who will be juniors or seniors in high school. Each week provides 20 – 40 Grand Island Diocese student participants and 10 adult staff who engage in activities that include playing, praying and working together as a community of faith. The week begins at 7:00PM MDT on Sunday and ends at 10:00AM MDT the following Friday. The cost is $150, and a round-trip bus fare will be available at an additional $80.

At Higher Ground Middle School Retreat, approximately 25 student participants who have completed 6th or 7th grade and 10 adult staff gather in an informal atmosphere to have a lot of fun and build relationships of trust. The group is encouraged to experience the joy of playing, praying and working together as a community of faith. The retreat begins at 6:00PM MDT, Sunday, and ends at 1:00PM the following Thursday. We will keep you posted on transportation and scholarship opportunities.

Spiritual Communion Prayer
The most common reason for making an Act of Spiritual Communion is when a person cannot attend Mass.

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love you above all things and I desire to receive you in my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
Come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already there
And unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
Amen.

Parish Office

The parish offices will be closed, but phone calls, messages and emails will be checked periodically, but not as frequently as unusual.  We will respond to these the best that we can under the circumstances, as always be assured that you are important to our St. James Parish.
