All Are Welcome

After more than 150 years in Kearney, the parish of St. James has a rich history as a community of Catholic worship and an established legacy of service to the people of Kearney and the surrounding areas.

Another Fishing Story

O come, O come, Immanuel, and ransom captive Israel that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel
shall come to you, O Israel.

I remember when I was in the seminary, we had to do a singing/ chanting practicum class. This was the song the instructor chose for all of the 16 in my class to sing in front of the rest of the class, and it was to be done by memory. As you can imagine, it was fun and for some it was a scary thing to have to sing in front of others. Not all have the gift, but all should at least try.
Advent is truly a wonderful time. Unfortunately, we as a culture, jump into Christmas immediately after Thanksgiving and really miss the whole purpose of Advent. Waiting! Now I must admit, I am not so good at waiting either, but I know it is good for me. Waiting makes us look for Jesus more intentionally. Waiting makes us be quiet and patient as we anticipate the Birth of the Lord. Waiting Well is the title of the book we will have an opportunity to study this Advent by Fr. Mike Schmitz. Do I wait well in Advent? Do I rush too quickly to make everything Christmas?
Jesus invites us to wait and to look. Look around you and see the good He is doing. Allow yourself to wait and to look for Jesus in places you may not normally look for Him. The Lord has been drawing me closer to Him and encouraging me to make Him the center of my life, our parish and our world. This weekend you may notice the tabernacle has moved to the center of the Sanctuary. It is a physical movement of Jesus and an intentional movement toward a Christ-centered life. From the pews, to the altar, to the tabernacle and cross. Come Lord Jesus! Come and help your people as we wait for you with love.

Otra Historia de Pesca

Oh ven, oh ven, Emmanuel, y rescata al cautivo Israel
que llora en solitario exilio aquí
hasta que aparezca el Hijo de Dios.
¡Alégrate! ¡Alégrate! Emmanuel
vendrá a ti, oh Israel.

Ven y ayud
