Meet our Priests

Fr. Joe Hannappel

Fr. Joe Hannappel

I am a follower of Jesus Christ called to give glory to God in the community of the Church sharing in the Paschal Mystery of Christ's life, death and resurrection. I am inspired by the hard work, integrity and faithfulness of my patron saint, St. Joseph. To describe my ministerial role I often use a quote from the patriarch Joseph in the book of Genesis: "I am Joseph your brother." In context of the biblical story these words are an act of reconciliation and healing for Joseph's family. I hope to be a pastor after the example of St. Paul and the good priests I have known. I am committed to faithfully serving St. James, the Diocese of Grand Island and the universal Church. Let us keep "loving the good" (Wisdom 7:22)

We read at the end of the creation story, in the Book of Genesis, that God looked at all he had fashioned and declared it good. The goodness and beauty of God's handiwork remains, though at times concealed beneath the brokenness brought on by the sin of the world.

In the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, creation is renewed. Darkness gives way to light, sin gives way to grace, and death gives way to life. These are the gifts held out to us in the life of Jesus and in the wisdom of the Sacred Scriptures. The Word and Wisdom of God come to us as gift. They point us to life.

To be a minister of the gospel and servant of the Father is my greatest joy and fulfillment. To take what I have received, and continue to receive, and to share it with others is the work of ministry that I embrace with joy. To be a kind of conduit of God's grace flowing freely to others is what brings peace to my heart.

To be in dynamic relationship with the Lord through Word and Sacrament is foundational to my life of ministry and the food of my soul. The outpouring of God's Spirit impels me to be a willing, though imperfect servant to God's people.

Blessings & Peace,

Fr. Art Faesser (Retired)
