Sunday, May 7, 2017

This Sunday we have been in our renovated space for one year, one week and six days (the dedication anniversary was April 24). The three year pledges to the “Come, Live in the Light” Capital Campaign will be completed this December. In January of 2018 we will begin paying off the anticipated $1.2 million remaining on the debt.  Our current 2016-2017 budget includes a $2,000 monthly interest payment which is paid from our weekly tithe.

Ron Dobesh, our parish administrator, and I met with members of the Campaign Advisory Team. We are developing a plan to invite as many members of the parish as possible to help pay off the debt in as short a time as possible.

The plan will include encouraging every parishioner to make an effort to support our campaign. We hope that everyone who made a pledge completes their pledge and will consider extending them beyond 2017. To those who have completed their pledge, a heartfelt “Thank You” and consider an additional pledge. I am so grateful to all who have sacrificially given to the campaign and look forward to more people participating.

Our weekly church support, the capital campaign gifts, the yearlong church renovation project, our community building and community outreach continue to make the Kingdom of God “at hand” in our world. All of this and more make me keenly aware of how the Risen Lord continues to work in our lives and makes a difference in the world.

This weekend the priest transfers will be announced and next week they will be published in the West Nebraska Register. I am happy to inform you that Fr. Art and I are not moving. It is an honor for me to serve this parish as your pastor, to work with our great staff, committees, prayer groups, and ministry pro-grams. I especially love celebrating the Liturgy of Eucharist with you. Every experience deepens my awareness that the “reign of God” is present and powerful right here in our midst!

I AM Joseph your brother and grateful pastor!  Fr. Joe Hannappel
