Sunday, April 2, 2017

The bulletin insert has the schedule for “Holy Week” in our parish. Arrange your week to make it “holy” by joining the community in celebrating these central mysteries of our faith. Make the liturgical celebrations a priority and fit the rest of your week around them. This is our annual parish and universal church retreat. The times of services are in this bulletin. If you cannot attend the services make time to pray at home or visit the church. As we experience this “Paschal Mystery” of our salvation, may we all live, die, and rise in unity with the whole church.

The “Chrism Mass” in the Diocese of Grand Island will be celebrated Monday, April 3rd at 4:00 p.m. in North Platte. Everyone is welcome to attend. It is of great importance that the Chrism Mass is celebrated with the priests and the faithful of the diocese, gathered together with the bishop. At the center of the Chrism Mass is the blessing of the oil of the catechumens and the oil of the sick, and the consecration of the sacred chrism.

The Chrism Mass also is a time to celebrate the ordained priesthood. In our diocese the priests take this opportunity to gather and celebrate significant ordination anniversaries. This year’s honorees are Fr. Bob Chamberlain ordained 60 years (pastor of St. James 1975-1982 during the construction of our current building) and Fr. Jim Heitoff ordained 40 years (former chaplain at the Newman Center in Kearney and vocation director while I was in seminary). Please keep Fr. Chamberlain, Fr. Heitoff and all the priests of our diocese in your prayers.

I AM Joseph your brother. Fr. Joe Hannappel
