Another Fishing Story
“Brothers and sisters: What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us.” (Romans 8:35)
I wanted to say a quick thank you to Liz West and the Social committee and all of the Parish Council members who assisted in making the St. James celebration a huge success. It was wonderful to see so many people celebrate our Patronal Feast. I was praying with the passage from the second reading for this weekend, and thinking of the weekend’s celebration. Truly, nothing will separate us from the love of Christ. As a parish, we are blessed and strengthened by the love of Christ. We are as strong as our faith; we are as weak and poor as the weakest and poorest members. But all is for the sake of Christ who has blessed us. We all grow together, side-by-side and we all support each other in our trials. May God continue to bless all of our families and school, and may St. James continue his intercession for us.
This next week I will be on vacation with priest classmates in Northern Minnesota. Although I wish we were ice fishing, we won’t have any ice this time of year. We will be golfing and fishing and enjoying each other’s company. I always enjoy sharing my blessings and stories from St. James with my brothers as they share from their own parish. Please keep us in your prayers for safe travels and return.

Quiero expresar un breve agradecimiento a Liz West, al Comité Social y a todos los miembros del Consejo Parroquial que colaboraron para hacer de la celebración de Santiago Apóstol un gran éxito. Fue una alegría ver a tantas personas reunidas para celebrar la fiesta de nuestro santo patrono. Mientras oraba con el pasaje de la segunda lectura de este fin de semana, pensaba en la celebración que vivimos. Verdaderamente, nada podrá separarnos del amor de Cristo. Como parroquia, somos bendecidos y fortalecidos por ese amor. Somos tan fuertes como nuestra fe; somos tan débiles y necesitados como los miembros más débiles y necesitados de nuestra comunidad. Pero todo es por Cristo, quien nos ha bendecido. Todos crecemos juntos, hombro a hombro, y nos apoyamos mutuamente en nuestras pruebas. Que Dios continúe bendiciendo a todas nuestras familias y a nuestra escuela, y que Santiago Apóstol siga intercediendo por nosotros.
La próxima semana estaré de vacaciones con mis compañeros sacerdotes de seminario en el norte de Minnesota. Aunque me gustaría que fuéramos a pescar sobre hielo, en esta época del año no tendremos esa oportunidad. Estaremos jugando golf, pescando y disfrutando de la compañía unos de otros. Siempre disfruto compartir con mis hermanos las bendiciones y las historias de la parroquia de Santiago, mientras ellos también comparten las experiencias de sus propias parroquias. Les pido que nos mantengan en sus oraciones para que tengamos un viaje seguro y un feliz regreso.
