HURRICANE HARVEY RELIEF A second collection to be taken up next weekend, September 9/10. The funds collected in this one-time special appeal for Hurricane Harvey Relief will be used to support the efforts of Catholic Charities USA, the official domestic relief agency of the U.S. Catholic Church, as they and their member agencies respond to immediate emergency needs for necessities such as water, food, shelter, and medical care as well as to the long term needs to rebuild and recover after widespread destruction, and of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for pastoral and reconstruction aid to the Church.

To donate online through Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Galveston/Houston:

You will find blue envelopes from Prince of Peace Church in our pews. This fall, from August 21st to December 31, 2017, 56th Street will be closed from West of 2nd Avenue and past 17th Avenue. Because of this, it is possible that Prince of Peace parishioners will attend Mass at St. James and can use these envelopes for the plate collection. During the time of our renovation, Prince of Peace placed St. James envelopes in their pews so we are happy to return the favor.

These are challenging words from this Sunday’s Gospel: “Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what can one give in exchange for his life? For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father's glory, and then he will repay all according to his conduct.’" (Matthew 16:24-28)

I AM Joseph your brother. Fr. Joe Hannappel
