Fishing with St. James

Sunday, July 30, 2017

Sunday, July 30, 2017

Last weekend we honored our parish’s patron saint; St. James the Greater (July 25 is the actual feast day). James and his brother John were called by Jesus as they worked with their father in a fishing boat on the Sea of Galilee (Mark 1:19-20). James was one of the favored three (with Peter and John) who witnessed the Transfiguration, the raising to life of the daughter of Jairus and the agony in Gethsemani. On another occasion Jesus gave James and John the nickname “sons of thunder” (Luke 9:54-55). James was apparently the first of the apostles to be martyred (Acts 12:1-3a).

Many thanks to the Social Committee for hosting the St. James Picnic last Saturday night and the Knights of Columbus who provided breakfast on Sunday morning.

You will see in the bulletin that we need some disciples willing to serve our parish in leadership positions for Oktoberfest. Contact the parish office if you are willing to step forward and serve in these or other ways.

I AM Joseph your brother. Fr. Joe Hannappel
