Reconciliation - canceled until further notice

3:30pm 6/6/2020 3:30 PM

Reconciliation:  Saturday - 3:30-4:30 PM or by appointment. canceled until further notice

Confessions at St. James: Everyone can experience reconciliation with God and others as we stay at home. At this time there will be no confession times scheduled at the church until the physical separation restrictions are lifted. This is for your health and safety and for mine. You may call for an appointment, I will arrange for an individual confession. Bishop Hanefeldt’s directions are that the “drive by” approach to confessions or celebrating the sacrament by some electronic means are prohibited.

Pope Francis has these encouraging words for us: “This is the right time, the opportune moment. An act of contrition done well, and our souls will become white like the snow.” He went on to say, “Return to your father who is waiting for you. Make an act of contrition and promise God ‘I will go to confession after-ward but forgive me now and you will return to a state of grace with God.’ You yourself can draw near, as the catechism teaches us, to God’s forgiveness, with-out having a priest at hand.”

The Catechism of the Catholic Church reads, “When it arises from a love by which God is loved above all else, contrition is called perfect (contrition of chari-ty). Such contrition remits venial sins; it also obtains forgiveness of mortal sins if it includes the firm resolution to have recourse to sacramental confession as soon as possible.” (CCC 1452)
